I Wanna Hold You

I have 2 younger sisters that I love so very much!  So many favorite memories I remember were of us as young girls running around without a care in the world, just being little. We loved pushing each other on the swing set to see how high we could really go, jumping as high as we could on the trampoline and thinking we could actually fly, talking endlessly at night time when we were supposed to be asleep. These were the days when life was simple and easy.

A sweet phrase I will always remember my lil sis saying was, “I wanna hold you”.  She would lift her little arms up and reach out to my mom or me and say those precious little words… “I wanna hold you.” Just thinking of that now makes my heart melt.  Her sweet little innocent eyes looking up into mine, just asking us to hold her.  She just wanted us to just take a moment and reassure her that we were here for her and comfort her.

Just as a newborn baby loves to be swaddled and held closely, remembering the safe and sound surroundings of being in their mommies womb, tucked safely inside and held secure, we also long for that security … for that warm embrace and to know that we can be held and that we are safe and comforted.

Jake Hamilton came to our church last week and sang one of my favorite songs- Embrace.  The words say, “wanna feel your embrace, wanna feel your arms around me, wanna feel your heart beating next to mine… and you’re telling me, it’s all gonna be ok!”  {Jake Hamilton}

There are days that come and you may be spinning your wheels trying to make everything work out as planned.  You may be running here and rushing there and everywhere to meet all of life’s daily demands.  Some days you just really want to push the “easy button,” and to hear the response, as in the Staples commercials say “that was easy.”

I actually bought the easy button at Staples and have it sitting on my desk.  I push it from time to time and say a little prayer and release whatever it is that I have on my mind and give it to God.  It may be work related, my kids, or schedules, or anything going on that I may feel pressure and need to hand it over to God.

With God, there is an easy button.  He takes our efforts and makes them effortlessly.  The dictionary defines “effort” as an exertion of physical or mental power, earnest or strenuous attempt, something done by exertion or hard work.  Some days do you feel like you are striving, straining and working tirelessly at an attempt to just get by and live day to day?

I know I do. Just this morning I was thinking about some things that need to be worked out today with my son and another kid. The words to a song by Coldplay that kept playing in my mind while thinking of this issue was “nobody said it was easy, no one said it would be this hard…I’m going back to the start.”

Later I was having quiet time and pulled up a Rita Springer song titled Effortlessly. Something stirred up inside of me so I looked up the dictionary meaning for the word “effortlessly: and look what it says: requiring or involving no effort, displaying no signs of effort, easy! Then I began to dig even more and looked up the meaning in thesauraus.  It gives an explanation of easily, calmly, freely, hands down, just like that, like nothing, no sweat, nothing to it, piece of cake, quickly, simply, smoothly, steadily, surely, with ease, with no effort, without trouble.

This spoke volumes to me and I hope that it speaks to your situation too!  Whatever you have been striving, exerting physical or mental power or attempting to put so much effort in, God would love for you to hand it over to Him.  Push that easy button and say God I give you this situation.  Whether it’s a stack of bills, a need for gas money, a new job, or anything going on in your life that you have been striving, straining and been under pressure for, just give it over to God.  Let Him be in control.  He will take all your efforts and to Him, they will be effortlessly!  He says all that you have been worrying about is a piece of cake to Him.

Just as my lil sister would say, “I wanna hold you,” God wants to hear you say, “I wanna hold you.”  This actually means you want to be held by Him. You can be a little girl in your Daddy’s lap. He will hold you close. You can lift up your heart and your hands to Him. Just reach up to Him and say hold me.  Comfort me, I want to feel safe and secure in your arms knowing that you are in control of every situation.  He loves to hold you, to embrace you and let you know that “It’s all gonna be ok!” He says, “I got this!”

“Still, if you set your heart on God
and reach out to him,
You’ll forget your troubles;
they’ll be like old, faded photographs.
Your world will be washed in sunshine,
every shadow dispersed by dayspring.
Full of hope, you’ll relax, confident again;
you’ll look around, sit back, and take it easy.
Expansive, without a care in the world,
you’ll be hunted out by many for your blessing.” {Job 11:13-16 The MSG}

Do you need to push the easy button and give your hard things to God? Are you wanting to just relax and let God hold you, knowing that He has everything under control? We would love to hear your heart today and any declarations of giving your “stuff” to God!
