Happiness during Hard Times

Meeting all these new Embrace Grace girls this semester, my heart breaks because of the hard times some of them are in right now. They each have their own unique situations where they struggle with understanding from the hurt. Some families have turned their back on them because of the pregnancy, some baby daddies that are not accepting responsibility and keeps on partying and carrying on, some are completely alone and not sure how they are going to be able to care for a baby on their own.

There is a cool passage of scriptures in James 1 that I always think about when I’m going through a hard time. In fact, I’ll say out loud or in my head, “Sister, consider it pure joy!” when something bad happens.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”{James 1:2-4}

It says we should consider having joy through the trials because it produces perseverance – it makes us stronger and a better person. God already promised that He is going to turn our messy, bad situations into something good for those that love Him. I know that looking back at pain I’ve gone through in my past, I think that I wouldn’t be half the person that I am now.

When we go through hard times, we grow and press deeper and closer to God. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” {Psalm 34:18} We feel like we have no other choice but to run into the safety of the arms of our Heavenly Father. There we search for answers and ask Him to heal our broken hearts … and to proclaim the promise of God’s to make our bad thing that we’re going through, good again.

One thing that helps me when I’m going through hard times is going to help someone in need, or hanging out with some of you girls and giving back in some way. It readjusts my bubble of reality and helps me realize that the world is still turning and life is still moving on, amidst the struggle I’m going through. There is life after my trial and life during it. All you can do is to just keep pushing through and proclaiming victory … and Live BIG while your at it because there are a lot of people watching you even when you don’t know it. They are wanting to see how you handle this and what is so different about you than them. How do you have peace with everything you’re going through? It’s only God. He gets the Glory …

You only get 1 life … you can be sad or happy. You can live defeated or victorious. It’s your choice and a decision you can make daily regardless of the circumstances you are going through at the moment.

With the trials and hard times you’re going through right now, what are some different ways God could take it and make it good? He usually does it in a way that is WAY bigger than we ever could thing on our own, but sometimes just trying to think of ways, helps us see the bigger picture of the hard times in our lives in the present.
